Grifeo Partanna Castle

The Grifeo Partanna Castle is the well-preserved example of medieval castle built along the western part of Sicily.

Built in 1076, the amazing medieval Grifeo Partanna Castle was a fortress used by Ruggero il Normanno to defeat Arabs. The castle has been designed by the architect Perbono Calandrino who characterised the building with amazing towers and gardens. Home of the Princes Grifeo for about nine centuries, it is the well preserved example of medevial castle built along the western part of Sicily. Today the castle is a museum that displays lots of ancient masterpieces as its charming basements with its amazing old wine cellars.

  • I was wondering if this castle had any significance in Roman history as Sicily was a part of Roman agriculture. My family is descendants of this name and I would like to reconnect to my ancient heritage.
