Caltanissetta/Sutera

A few kilometres from Palermo and Agrigento fast scrolling, a chalk plateau elevation – solfifero to 580 metres above sea level rises Sutera, an ancient town overlooking the hills below and the Platani river valley.
The town is perched around slopes of Mount San Paolino (823 metres), a superb pyramid rock that has always been the place of memory, the dominant character and the refuge of defense of the country.
Sutera has in its glorious blazon different names that refer to particular characteristics of its geographic location.  So it was defined for its pure air “Balcony of western Sicily” because the top of the mountain the horizon widens allowing the viewing of 24 towns, Etna and the sea of Agrigento
